Delegate Bob Thomas Receives 2019 Distinguished Legislative Leadership Award from the Virginia Transit Association

PORTSMOUTH, VA – The Virginia Transit Association (VTA) honored Delegate Bob Thomas at its annual awards ceremony in Portsmouth with the 2019 Distinguished Legislative Leadership Award in recognition of his efforts to support transit operating funding.

“Transportation issues affect all areas of our community,” said Thomas. “Addressing growing congestion on our roads and ensuring Virginia has a robust and up-to-date transportation system is vital in growing our economy and keeping Virginia moving forward.”

Delegate Thomas sponsored the critical “Hold Harmless” bill (HB 2553) that allows any mass transit provider that received funds from the Commonwealth Mass Transit Fund and incurs a loss in operating funds as a direct result of the (new MERIT) performance-based allocation process, to be eligible for supplemental funds in 2020.

Thomas represents the 28th House District, which includes parts of Stafford County and Fredericksburg City. Thomas is currently serving his first term in the Virginia House of Delegates after six years serving the George Washington District on the Stafford County Board of Supervisors.
